Mohammad Owais

PhD Student

Ph.D. thesis title: “Thermally conductive and electrically insulative polymer composites”.

Supervisor: Prof. Sergey Abaimov

Mohammad Owais did his graduation with bachelors of science honors, BS-honors (4 years) in “Nanoscience & technology” (Distinction/84%) in 2014 from Preston Institute of Nanoscience & Technology, Preston University, Islamabad, Pakistan. During his research he investigated the role of nanotechnology in application related to industries in sports sector. He had an opportunity to work on a commercial scale project for “fabrication of nanocomposites-based hockey sticks” in an International multi-dimensional industrial firm called Grays of Cambridge in Sialkot, Pakistan.

In 2018 he completed his master’s degree of engineering (ME) in “nanoscience and technology” from national center for nanoscience and technology (NCNST), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (Distinction/89%) with the thesis entitled as “Thermally conductive and electrically insulative behavior of hybrid fillers-based epoxy nanocomposites”.  Among several pertinent projects under the supervision of Prof. Zhong Zhang, he majorly focused on fabrication of novel functional nanocomposites that could provide an outstanding choice for high performance thermal management applications together with other lightweight electronic devices. This included enhanced thermal conductivity and electrical resistive characteristics of epoxy nanocomposites with ultra-low loading of hybrid fillers of graphene nanoplatelets and boron nitride nanoparticles for thermal management applications. Other than thermally conductive polymer nano-composites, he got a reasonable exposure of work related to tribology during collaborative research projects with other scientists at NCNST. Furthermore, his research interest include epoxy and PVA based hybrid nanocomposites with fillers of graphene nanoplatelets, short carbon fiber and boron nitride nanoparticles for thermally interface materials and the use of 2-D materials like graphene and carbon nanotubes in polymer matrix systems.
