Ph.D. thesis: “Innovative Path for the Efficiency of Heat Engines”.
Supervisors: Prof. Henni Ouerdane and Prof. Giuliano Benenti
IDC committee members: Prof. Henni Ouerdane, Prof. Giuliano Benenti and Prof. Konstantin Tikhonov
Ilia Khomchenko received his BSc in 2018 from the Novosibirsk State University under the supervision of Dr. Dmitry Sykovsky. During his bachelor studies, Ilia worked as a laboratory assistant at the Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk, Russia. After that, he entered Skoltech, where he gained his MSc in 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Henni Ouerdane. As a part of Skoltech’s Industrial Immersion, Ilia worked in TION as a testing engineer within a joint project of microclimate control. He was also a visiting student in the group of Prof. Giuliano Benenti (October-December 2019) at the University of Insubria, Como, Italy, within the academic mobility program.
Khomchenko has been focused on a variety of theoretical problems. He started his research career by developing a modern theory of near-wall turbulence. Then, he moved to thermoelectricity and thermodynamics. Ilia’s research interests are currently in the field of energy-related problems of quantum thermodynamics, superconductivity, and quantum information theory.
At present, he is a second-year Ph.D. student of the joint program between Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Moscow, Russia, and the University of Insubria, Como, Italy, under the supervision of Prof. Henni Ouerdane and Prof. Giuliano Benenti. Ilia is currently focused on studying heat control and management through the superconducting devices and energy conversion in these devices.
