February 26 in the Center for Energy Systems of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology the Second Scientific Seminar was held. Janusz Bialek, Professor, director of the Center gave a lecture titled “Blackouts: why they happen and how to prevent them?” In his speech professor introduced the classification of outages and explained generic reasons for blackouts which affect tens of millions of people for a few days, and gave details of the accidents occurred in the United States and Canada, Italy, the UK in 2003, and the largest blackout in the world happened in 2012 in India.
