Abstract. Traditionally power grid model and gas network model are studied separately. Power Systems CREI are working now on combined power-gas model of China which includes both power flows and gas flows analysis based on similar model developed for Europe by Bialek and Spataru. The combined power-gas model assesses demand and supply balance under different circumstances, by varying flows on the links between nodes until the resulting pattern of generation and trade results in minimized costs whilst constraints of link capacities are met. Also a number of optimization problems can be solved which are not available in traditional separate networks approach.
