Skoltech Tours and Talks – Smart Grid Laboratory

The Tours and Talks project for employees featured the first out-of-campus lab tour last week. The Energy Center’s Smart Grid Laboratory on Nobel street and its Power Electronics group opened their doors to our community and presented their facilities and ongoing projects. Associate Professor Federico Ibanez highlighted some of the developed technologies such as the patented “Energy Hub” fast charger with internal storage and generation and a power boosted accumulator for electric vehicles based on supercapacitors — the team is negotiating to install it in one of Skolkovo buses as an experiment. Other lab projects were presented by its team — Senior Engineer Yaroslav Vlasov, Laboratory Engineer Ilya Veretennikov, and Software Engineer Ildar Idrisov. As part of the tour, Senior Research Scientist Mikhail Pugach from the Laboratory of Industrial-Scale Energy Storage Systems presented an industrial-scale accumulator system based on vanadium flow batteries. Many thanks to Senior Engineer Mikhail Afonin for helping in organizing the tour.
