Abstract: Redox flow batteries have been recognized as promising energy storage devices with capacity up to 5 MWh due to independent power/energy sizing and long-cycle life. A crucial part of RFB is the membrane which separates the anolyte and catholyte containers (thus providing for charge carriers conductivity and preventing the cross-mixing of the redox-active components). The presentation provides a brief overview of membrane technology for RFB and proposes a new methodology for a modification of commercially available membrane to obtain the desired ion-selectivity.

Abstract: The high cost of large-sized lithium batteries makes the researchers look for alternative cathode materials based on other alkali metals, and potassium is considered as one of the possibilities. Aprotic ionic liquids with wide electrochemical stability window are one of the promising electrolytes for high voltage ion batteries, such as Na-ion, K-ion, Mg-ion batteries. Smaller reactivity at high voltages, high ionic conductivity are their main advantages over the conventional carbonate electrolytes. We will discuss about applicability and electrochemical stability of ionic liquids as electrolytes for K-ion batteries.
