CLS scientists Olga Vakhrusheva, Maria Logacheva and Georgii Bazykin have co-authored a paper “Genomic signatures of recombination in a natural population of the bdelloid rotifer Adineta vaga” that has been recently published in Nature Communications. Bdelloid rotifers are microscopic freshwater invertebrates believed to have completely abandoned sexual reproduction tens of Myr ago. The researchers have analyzed whole genomes of 11 bdelloid rotifer Adineta vaga. They have found evidence for interindividual genetic exchange and recombination in bdelloid rotifers that previously thought to be anciently asexual. Congratulations!
