Skoltech researchers Daria Nikolaeva and Mikhail Gelfand have published a paper “Simplification of ribosomes in bacteria with tiny genomes” in Molecular Biology and Evolution journal! The scientists have shown that bacteria with tiny genomes tend to lose genes encoding the ribosomal proteins in clusters rather than at random. Interestingly, bacteria from different groups lose the same proteins. Congratulations! Full text of the paper is available here.
