In July 2020, Skoltech researchers Ksenia Safina and Georgii Bazykin have co-authored a preprint “Genomic epidemiology of the early stages of the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in Russia”. The researches have shown that SARS-CoV-2 was introduced into Russia independently 67 times. According to their data, in March and April there were 9 lineages of the virus circulating in Russia.
