Skoltech scientists Ilya Osterman, Tinashe Prince Maviza, Dmitrii Lukianov, Ekaterina Komarova, Olga Dontsova, and Petr Sergiev have co-authored an article “Tetracenomycin X inhibits translation by binding within the ribosomal exit tunnel” that has been recently published in Nature Chemical Biology journal. The researchers have shown that aromatic polyketide antibiotic tetracenomycin X does not induce DNA damage, as it was previously thought, but instead blocks protein synthesis by binding within ribosome exit tunnel. They demonstrated that TcmX allows translation of short oligopeptides before further translation is blocked. Congratulations! Full text of the paper is available here.
