On November, 10 Skoltech PhD student Dmitrii Travin was invited to give a lecture on antibiotics in the Scientific Club of Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics, MSU. In his lecture, Dmitrii chronicled how antibiotics appeared and were developed , outlined the major groups of modern antibiotics and the mechanisms of their action. He also told about the end of the “golden age” of antibiotics and an extremely acute problem of antibiotic resistance usually described as an antibiotic crisis. He paid special attention to novel approaches scientists can search for new compounds with antibiotic activity potentially effective against multi-resistant bacteria.
