Skoltech research scientist Sergey Shmakov took part in the Research Festival of the National Institutes of Health (September 12-14, 2018). He presented a new method for identification of genes associated with CRISPR-Cas loci and described novel cas genes he found with this approach. Sergey also gave a brief overview of the use of CRISPR-Cas effectors for genome editing and focused on a possible role of products of newly identified genes as biotechnological tools.
