Photonics Seminar Series: Egor Zhermolenko (MSc-1) and Mohammad Monowar (MSc-1)

On the 19th of April 2023, as part of the Photonics Seminar Series, we will have the pleasure to have two Skoltech Master students Egor Zhermolenko (MSc-1) and Mohammad Monowar (MSc-1) present their research.

When:  On the 19th of April 2023, Wednesday, at 17:00 MSK time
Where: New Campus room E-B2-3007 BigBlueButton

egorzhermolenkoEgor Zhermolenko will talk about his published paper entitled “Photocontrolled release of nitric oxide for precise management of NO concentration in a solution“.

About the speaker:

Egor Zhermolenko graduated from Novosibirsk State University, Department of Physics, sub-department of Quantum Optics. He did his bachelor’s at the Optics & Dynamics of BioSystems Laboratory working on optically controlled systems for photoinduced generation of nitric oxide. He is currently a master’s student in Skoltech, under the supervision of prof. Yuri Gladush.

Abstract:

Nitric oxide (NO) is a unique biochemical mediator involved in the regulation of vital processes. Its short half-life and local action impede direct application in medical practice. Light-controllable NO releasers are promising for the development of smart therapies. Here, we present novel aza-BODIPY derivative containing N-nitroso moiety, which shows efficient and reversible release of NO under red light. Using this molecule, we demonstrate a system for precise management of NO concentration in aqueous solution in vitro using the feedback loop with optical control. Our results could serve as the basis for the development of novel therapeutic methods.

mohammad-monowarMohammad Monowar‘s talk is entitled “Recent advances of Hall sensor and its applications”.

About the speaker:

Mohammad Mehedi Monowar received his Bachelor’s degree in Voronezh State University (VSU). Now he is a first-year MSc student in Hybrid Photonics Labs, under the supervision of prof. Sakellaris Mailis.

Abstract:

A Hall sensor is a type of sensor that is used to measure magnetic fields. It works by detecting the voltage generated by the Hall effect, which is a phenomenon where a magnetic field causes a voltage to appear across a conductor that is perpendicular to both the magnetic field and the direction of current flow. Recent advances in Hall sensors include the development of high-precision and high-sensitivity Hall sensors, as well as the integration of Hall sensors with other technologies, such as microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and nanotechnology.
