Laboratory of Nanomaterials (LNM)

The Laboratory of NanoMaterials, led by Prof. A. Nasibulin, is among the top technology laboratories in the world and offers a unique environment for strong interdisciplinary research and a proven track record of productive cooperation. The main research areas of the group are:

  • the synthesis of carbon nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, graphene, metal oxide nanowires),
  • the applications of nanomaterials in transparent and flexible electronics, stretchable electronics, and photovoltaics.

Laboratory of Hybrid Photonics (LHPh)

Hybrid photonics lab is led by Prof. P. Lagoudakis. Hybrid photonics is a new emerging research area at the interface between traditional optoelectronics and new technologies that spans from fundamental physics to applications of phenomena related to hybrid light-matter excitations and photon-mediated interactions of disparate material systems.

Purpose: research in Hybrid Photonics utilizing nanostructures based on organic and inorganic, metallic and semiconductor, crystal and amorphous materials, epitaxial and solution processable, strongly interacting with light for developing disruptive technologies and a new generation of hybrid photonic/optoelectronic and quantum devices.

Biophotonics Laboratory

Biophotonics Lab is led by Prof. D.Gorin.
Purpose: The development of new approaches combining visualization, diagnostics, and therapy using the synergy of last achievements of photonics and material science for biomedical applications. Discovering new principles and methods for R&D of tools/devices for diagnostics, imaging and treatment in personal, prevention and translation medicine.

Plasmonics Laboratory 

Plasmonics Lab is led by Prof.V.Drachev.  That laboratory has been recently established at Skoltech to provide world-level research on the plasmonics nanostructures and metamaterials for biomedicine, nanoelectronic and microwave photonic applications.

Laboratory for Time and Frequency Research (Skoltech Time@Frequency Lab, TFL) 

TFL is led by I.V.Sherstov. TFL conducts researches related to the time, frequency and optics. Nowadays there are projects devoted to development an optical Yb ion frequency standard for space-borne and air-borne applications. There are a lot of problems devoted to miniaturization, stabilization and automatization of the whole system in this area.

Direction of Quantum Materials and Superconducting Technologies (DQMST)

DQMST is led by Prof. Oleg Astafiev. The mission of the Direction of Quantum Materials and Superconducting Technologies at Center for Photonic Science and Engineering is to organize and promote experimental and theoretical research in the physics of quantum materials, develop quantum technologies at Skoltech and the Russian Federation, provide World class education and research training for Msc and PhD students, and prepare background for the next generation of high-tech quantum devices.
