Thulium Fiber Revolution in Laser Urology

Abstract:

Laser has become a first-line modality for several indications in urology, lithotripsy being the most significant one. Recent introduction of super-pulsed Thulium fiber laser has further augmented capabilities of laser lithotripter. Benefits and specific features of Tm laser device will be discussed. Comparison with existing “gold-standard” technology will be considered in detail. Perspectives and limitations of Tm technology will be covered.

Speaker introduction: 

Ilya V. Yaroslavsky received MSc degree summa cum laude in Physics in 1990 and PhD degree in Laser Physics in 1994, both from Saratov State University (Saratov, Russia).

From 1994 to 2000, he worked in academia on several aspects of biomedical optics and laser medicine. He started his industrial carrier at Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc. in 2000. In 2015, he joined IPG Medical Corporation. His scientific interests include light-tissue interactions and use of lasers for biomedical applications. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 scientific papers and inventions.
