Georgii Bazykin gave several talks

Professor Georgii Bazykin gave an interview to Pravmir portal focused on a novel SARS-CoV-2 strain found in Russia is similar to delta strain. He explained how dangerous the novel strain is and when the pandemic would stop. Professor Bazykin took part in the program “Vopros nauki” at Rossiya 24 TV channel where he described the mutations obtained by SARS-CoV-2 and explained how does natural selection impacts this process. He also gave a talk during the conference Molecular Diagnostics-2021 that took place in Moscow in the beginning of November where he claimed that a novel Russian SARS-CoV-2 strain is unusual because it carries highly unusual combination of mutations. Professor Bazykin proposed that this combination could be a result of few SARS-CoV-2 introductions in Russia, adaptive benefit, founder effect and random drift. Full text of the talk is available at PCR.News portal.

Professor Georgii Bazykin passed several comments on novel SARS-CoV-2 strain currently known as “Omicron”. In the interview to Izvestiya, he claimed that in Russia, Omicron can displace Delta which is the most widespread SARS-CoV-2 in Russia nowadays. He also gave an interview to Echo Moskvy  as part of the joint project with Skoltech “Razgovory za zhizn” where he explained what bioinformatics is and how it interacts with medicine nowadays.
