SEMINAR ABSTRACT:

Polymer composites are one of the most prospective construction materials. Nowadays, when designing and manufacturing polyer/elastomer composite materials, constructions, and goods, much attention is paid to the problems of ecology, economy and energy efficiency. The main components of elastomer composites materials are elastomeric matrices and active (reinforcing) fillers, usually submicron and nanoparticles of different composition and structure. So, design and application of new reinforcing mineral fillers of natural origin from renewable sourсes for polymer/elastomer composite materials to meet new challenges is of high interest. This seminar is devoted to the problem to obtaining reinforcing effects in elastomer composites filled with dispersed mineral particles of natural origin. During the conducted researches, it was established that the most efficient method of regulation properties of the considered composites is the use of nanoscale particles of mineral fillers in combination with the surface coupling agent, providing a high degree of dispersion of the filler particles in the volume of the composite matrix. Based on FE modelling the reinforcement effect of the composite is associated with the increase in the relative volume content of interphase zones with decreasing particle size was shown.

 

 

SPEAKER INTRODUCTION:

Kornev Yuriy is a senior scientist at the Institute of Applied Mechanics of Russian Academy Of Sciences (IAM RAS). He received the Master’s degree in Chemical technology and biotechnology from М. V. Lomonosov Moscow State Academy of Fine Chemical Technologies (MITHT) (2004) and Candidate of Science degree in technology and processing of polymers and composites (2007). During his studies, Yuriy has concentrated on investigation of reinforcement effects in elastomer composites materials. The main focus of his research activities is investigation of structure parameters of such materials and its directional control to archive the required mechanical properties of composite materials. Yuri has developed methods of surface modification of carbon particles to use as reinforсing filler in polymer composites. At IAM RAS Yuriy is developing new type of reinforcing fillers from raw materials of natural origin for polymer composites. These technologies are more environmental friendly and energy efficient, then conventional.
