Research project – Identification of protein binding sites during the CRISPR-adaptation process.
The CRISPR-Cas adaptive immune systems provide heritable sequence-specific protection against invaders. CRISPR adaptation involves incorporation of invader-derived nucleic acids to the host CRISPR array. The presence of spacer in the CRISPR array against the fully or partially corresponded foreign DNA strongly increased the efficiency of new spacer incorporation from the same DNA. This process was called primed adaptation. Primed adaptation requires all Cas proteins, but Cas1 and Cas2 are the key participant, so binding activity of Cas-proteins need to be investigated better.
